The cover’s done… we’re getting close

09 Jun

There’s sooooo much excitement involved in writing a book. First you come up with the idea (and maybe blog about that)… you develop your characters (and maybe blog about that…). You get to know them so well, you feel like you could pick up the phone and call them. Never mind the fact that in this instance, phones weren’t even invented back then.

You write the story! The characters come alive. The location becomes real. You live and breathe the story. You go to bed and it’s the last thing you think about as you drift off and it’s the first thing you think of when you wake up. At least that’s how it is for me… that may just be my OCD.. LOL Every break from work is spent researching or writing. The apartment looks like a tornado hit it, cuz who has time to clean? Dishes? They’re in the sink. But the story must be told.

Finally it’s completed. You stare at the screen. Is it really done? Wait, maybe there’s more… no… the story is told. You close out of the screen. And miss your characters like crazy.

Next comes submission. You send it to the publisher and bite your nails. You check your emails ten times a day. Was it accepted? PLEASE let it not be rejected? How could it be? You poured your heart and soul into it. Finally you hear – IT’S ACCEPTED! YES!!! Rock on… Happy dance all over the place. Woo Hoo!

Oh yeah – edits… so much for that happy dance. Now comes the work. But that’s cool. Cuz editors rock and they know how to take your little manuscript and make it a full-fledge, ready-for-public-consumption novel. So you pour more blood, sweat and tears into your baby and send it back.

Now what? Are we there yet? Is it time? Not quite… How bout now? Nope, still waiting…

And then you get the cover. OMG! What a rush! You know your baby is going to  be wrapped in something pretty and tantalizing. Your book has personality and pizzazz. You’re loving it… You get to show it off to everyone and brag, “This is MY cover!!!”

And that’s where I am… Are we there yet? Nope, not quite – another three months to go, but we know what it looks like and we are soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo close!!!!
