Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

16 Feb

I heard this song on the radio this morning and had major flashbacks.  I am such a product of the 80’s.  I attended a small college in Northern California, Chico State, from81-85. And I had a blast.  This song was released in 1983 or 84 and those were particular favorite years of mine. I started tending bar at The Oasis Bar and Grill in June of 1984 and the fun just kept happening.

Two of my roommates also tended bar there and it got to the point that the boss wouldn’t assign schedules, because he knew that one of us would show up to cover it and he didn’t care who it was. Often it was whoever was the least hungover… sometimes it was just whoever had made it home by the time the shift started. Those were good times.

The summer of 1984 consisted of tending bar during the morning, tubing on the Sacramento River during the afternoon and partying all night, only to get up and do it again. Oh to be young and irresponsible again.

I’d like to hear from anyone who might read this. Do you have a favorite time in your life? What was it and why was it so wonderful?

One of my favourite time and places.. The North coast of Northern Ireland, during the first half of the 80’s. We lived in a very close knit community, where everyone knew each other. The summer months were pure bliss, every day was spent either at the beach surfing (v v cold Atlantic ocean lol) or climbing over the rocks and sand dunes. Jumping off the rocks into the ocean. Running up and down the promenade in our swimsuits with a towel tied round our necks pretending to be superheros :o)
It was a very simple time, we were content with tomato sandwiches a can of fizzy pop and if we were lucky an ice cream cone. Towards the end of the mid 80’s I can out to that close group of friends, now remember where I lived.. Not one of them blinked an eye, they didn’t care. To a 13 year old girl that meant the world.
